Frequently asked questions

Your frequent questions

  • It is estimated that in adulthood, we lose on average 1% of collagen per year. Taking collagen peptides can therefore prove useful from the age of 18!

  • Our Collagen formula was designed to compensate for collagen losses with age and was not developed to suit children. We advise you to ask your pediatrician for advice.

  • No, plant-based collagen does not exist. It would even be nonsensical, since this protein belongs to the animal kingdom. Collagen peptides are obtained from beef, pork, poultry or fish collagen (so-called "marine" collagen). We opted for two marine collagens from responsible fishing supply chains.

  • Since collagen is a major component of the skin, collagen supplementation primarily impacts the skin and will not necessarily be effective on nail or hair growth. For an effective action on hair growth, we recommend our dedicated formula, the Hair Complex.

  • Unfortunately, organic marine collagen does not exist. It is essentially a supply chain issue, because collagen hydrolysates are obtained from fish by-products that are not currently available in organic form.

  • One of the most important challenges when developing a collagen formula is controlling the taste. For our Collagen, we selected high-quality grades and very subtle natural flavorings of peach, chocolate, lemon, vanilla, matcha, red berries, or for a neutral taste, which allow you to drink it as is in water or add it to various hot or cold preparations. We have even put together a small recipe book of easy, practical everyday recipes, available with your order!

  • Yes! Clinical studies have shown that an intake of collagen hydrolysates helps maintain the elasticity, tone and texture density of the skin, and therefore, indeed, reduce the appearance of wrinkles or "smooth" them.

  • Absolutely. Collagen is an essential protein for the structure of the skin's dermis, and we lose 1% of it each year! Clinical studies on collagen peptide supplementation have shown an improvement in skin firmness and elasticity.

  • Yes! These two actives are perfectly complementary. Hyaluronic acid essentially contributes to skin hydration by capturing water molecules. Collagen, for its part, improves the tone and firmness of the skin. Both compounds are part of the composition of the extracellular matrix of the dermis and are thus essential to the structure of the skin. Together, they ensure the plump appearance of the skin.

  • The risk of allergy is essentially linked to fish-derived ingredients. If you are not allergic to fish, then you should not develop allergic reactions, and our formula presents no risk in case of crustacean allergy, since it contains no crustacean-derived ingredient. However, since allergic phenomena are individual-dependent, they remain specific to each person and can occur unexpectedly.

  • No risk: our collagen peptides are stable and can be added to hot as well as cold drinks.

  • Absolutely! Many athletes combine protein and collagen. Just be careful with the combination of doses, which will affect the texture.

  • Glycine is the main amino acid of collagen, which contains about 30% of it. But collagen contains other amino acids, notably hydroxyproline, which takes part in collagen synthesis in the body. Moreover, collagen peptides seem more effective at acting on connective tissues (skin, joints). Studies have shown a possible benefit of glycine for sleep quality or blood sugar control, but no clinical study has been done on joint or skin health, unlike collagen. Its main advantage is for vegans, vegan collagen not existing.

  • Molecular weight is indeed an important criterion. Our type I collagen, which makes up 90% of our formula, has a very low molecular weight, of 1,800 Daltons. Our type II collagen (10% of the formula) has a molecular weight below 3,000 Daltons. You therefore have both a variety of weights and a majority of very low weights, allowing optimal assimilation.

  • The origin of the fish depends on the type of collagen. Type I collagen is made from fish by-products (Alaska pollock skin) from sustainable fishing certified MSC (Marine Stewardship Council). Type II collagen is made from fish by-products (skate cartilage) from sustainable fishing off the Brittany and Normandy coasts. The Abyss fishing supply chain strictly follows the recommendations of Ifremer, in charge of counting marine species and setting fishing quotas, so as not to cause overfishing, by permanently monitoring available resources.

  • There are several differences between bovine and marine collagens. On the one hand, the supply chains are very different, with better traceability and more responsible supply chains on the marine collagen side. This quality is inevitably reflected in the price, which is a little higher than that of bovine collagen, which is often a by-product of intensive farming. Finally, marine collagen would be closer to human collagen, which would give it slightly higher bioavailability.

  • Glycine, as the most abundant amino acid in collagen, acts as a building block in the production of collagen by the fibroblast or chondrocyte. However, its role stops there and, unlike bioactive collagen peptides, it has no stimulating action on the fibroblast and chondrocyte. Let us add that, as a free amino acid, glycine can be engaged in pathways other than that of collagen. For example, it can be converted into carbohydrate by the body when it needs it. Glycine present in the form of collagen-specific di- and tripeptides will be directed 100% to the collagen pathway. Collagen peptides rich in glycine will therefore always be more effective than free glycine at stimulating collagen production. Glycine nevertheless remains an interesting alternative for vegans, since collagen is a protein derived exclusively from the animal world.

  • There is no known danger or side effect from taking collagen in healthy subjects at the recommended doses. A high intake of hydroxyproline could possibly increase oxalate levels and promote kidney stones in particularly sensitive people at daily doses above 10 g.

  • The effective dose we recommend is at least 5 g per day, which would represent 6 capsules of 500 mg per day. Capsules or tablets are therefore poorly suited packaging for collagen. For an easy-to-carry product, we offer a travel format in sticks of our collagen.

  • To do an effective collagen course, it is important to take the right daily dosage. This dosage depends above all on the level of absorption, and therefore on the molecular weight of the collagen. With our 2 patented collagens with an average molecular weight of 2,000 Daltons, and at dosages validated by clinical studies, the daily dosage of 5.5 g allows you to benefit from the full effectiveness of our formula.

  • Collagen is above all a protein, which poses no health problem in the medium or long term. It is entirely possible to take collagen every day.

  • Marine collagen is effective for improving skin quality and joint comfort, but it must still be chosen well. To be truly effective, it must be well absorbed thanks to a low molecular weight, rich in di- and tripeptides and above all patented, with clinical studies demonstrating its benefits. Our Marine Collagen meets all these criteria to ensure you maximum effectiveness.

  • You can of course buy our Collagen at the best price directly from our website. You can also buy our collagen dietary supplement in pharmacies at the same price (without a prescription) and in certain specialty stores.
